About Us

Dr. Arlyn Cuthbertson moved to Elko in 1953 after graduating from the University of California Davis as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He was eager to start a livestock based practice.

“It was a small town then…around 3,000...At that time I wanted a range cattle practice.” Dr. Cuthbertson recalled in an interview from 1996 that is on file at the Northeastern Nevada Museum. He and another veterinarian bought out a practice was located at 1850 Lamoille Highway. He became the owner when his partner left Elko.

At that time, the practice was serving about 80% large animal and only 20% serving cats, dogs, and other various species.

To more effectively travel between ranches, Dr. Cuthbertson took to the air. He took flight lessons from Ralph Scott at El Aero and bought a “Tail Dragger” plane so that he could easily land in fields and on dirt roads. For about 30 years, Dr. Cuthbertson served remote areas. He became grounded in 1986 after he was injured in a plane crash.

Dr. Cuthbertson continued to work in his practice and serve the community of Elko until his death at the age of 85 on March 31, 2007.

In 1989, Arlyn's son, Alan Cuthbertson joined him in practice after graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Alan Cuthbertson continues to co-own the practice as a third generation veterinarian in the Cuthbertson family.

In 1995, Dr. Michael Perchetti was hired after he graduated from the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Perchetti was offered shares in the practice in 1996.

Since 1953, the practice has grown from a single doctor mobile practice to the six doctor bustling mixed animal practice that it is today. The "old" clinic was continually expanded until there was no more room for growth. In 2010, Dr. Cuthbertson and Dr. Perchetti built a new state of the art facility next to the "old" building.
The clinic has hired many associates veterinarians over the years, but currently has the privilege of employing four other great veterinarians; Dr. Timothy Warner, Dr. Natalee Forman, Dr. Austin Kreiser, and Dr. Brandee Kreiser.
