Shelby knew from a young age that she was interested in pursuing a career in the field of veterinary medicine. She was taking animal science classes in high school and shadowing at Elko Veterinary Clinic over school and summer breaks. Shelby graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), with a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine. Shelby is passionate about surgical preparation, monitoring, and assisting but is especially enthusiastic about orthopedic surgery. She also enjoys working with exotics, particularly bearded dragons. Shelby’s advice to owners is to always be prepared for an emergency. It is important to have a plan, as well as funding set aside.
Outside of work, Shelby enjoys working in her yard and garden, reading, and sketching. Once a year she can be found enjoying herself at a comic convention.
